Performance Indicators for Coding Quality

PICQ® is a coding quality tool that leverages more than 600 indicators to objectively assess all records in a data set according to applicable clinical coding standards, coding conventions and coding rules.

PICQ® reviews both the disease and procedure codes used in a data set record and identifies inconsistencies in:

  • codes or code combinations that should have been prevented by basic edits
  • completeness (i.e. missing codes)

Part of PICQ®'s uniqueness is its approach to reporting, ensuring there is a true apples-to-apples comparison of data in order to assess a quality ratio.

By comparing results for a record to like-records, instead of an entire casemix, the quality ratio reflects an accurate view of coding proficiency.
